表示往上、在上面、向較高的位置

這個字作為介系詞有許多不同的意義，但表示方向則為朝向、到、前往某個目的地、地點。

You can walk from here to the station in under ten minutes.
你可以從這裡走到車站，不到10分鐘

This highway leads to New York.
這條高速公路通往紐約

這個字和to 有點像，但其實並不相同，toward 指的是朝著某個地點的方向前去，重點在方向，不在目的地。而to想要表達的就是前往、去到某個地點，前往的方向和路線並不是重點。

I saw Rick walking towards the restaurant.
我看見Rick朝餐廳的方向走去

Ken noticed a police officer coming towards him.
