مفردات إنجليزية يسهل الخلط بينها: ‏it’s vs. its و then vs. than

دعونا نوضح بسرعة بعض ما يسبب الخلط! كثيرون من الناس (سواء كانوا ناطقين باللغة الإنجليزية أم لا) يخلطون بين بضع كلمات قصيرة ولكنها مهمة جدًا. ‏أنا أتحدث هنا عن:  ‏‘its’, ‘it’s’, ‘then’ و ‘than’.

‏It’s vs its:

‏‘It’s’  – هذا اختصار لـ ‘it is’ أو ‘it has’.

‏‘Its’ – هذا ضمير ملكية يعني ‘منه’ أو ‘منتمي إليه’.

الأمثلة:

‏“It’s a dog.” ‏ويمكن أن تقول أيضًا “It is a dog.”

‏“It’s 8am” أو “It is 8am”

‏“My dog is scratching its ear.” أُذن مَن هي؟ أُذن الكلب. صيغة ملكية!

والآن جرب أنت:

‏1. its/it’s hot today

‏2. it’s/its been a long time!

3. ‏Mercedes is know for its/it’s safety and luxury.

الإجابات:

3. ‏Its- possessive

‏Then مقابل than

‏‘Then’  – نحن نستخدم هذا اللفظ لوضع الأحداث في مسار زمني. دعونا ننظر في بضع أمثلة لأن شرحها قد يكون صعبًا بعض الشيء.

‏الأمثلة:
“I usually eat breakfast then leave for work.”
“If you don’t get up soon then you won’t have time for breakfast.”
“I wanted breakfast but by then, I was already running late.”

‏‘Than’ – نستخدم ‘than’ كأداة ربط، عادة لعقد مقارنات.

الأمثلة:

‏“My dress is nicer than your dress.”

‏“You dress differently than I do.”

تذكر أن ‘than’ تُستخدم عندما تقارن شيء. ‘Then’ تُستخدم في المواقف التي تتناول الوقت.
