Congratulations – you have just joined EF English Live and are ready to start learning English.
But there is one problem: you haven’t been at school for a very long time and you have possibly never attended an online school before.
Don’t worry; to get you started, here are some great tips to help you learn English online.
1. Speak English every day
You need to look at and use English every day in order to properly learn the language. Even if you only have five minutes, do a quick task on your course, watch an English video, or even talk to yourself in English about your day and what you have planned for tomorrow. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you are being exposed to English and using it.
2. Set aside a certain time to study
This time can be every day at 18:00 or three days a week at 21:00. But whatever you decide on, always study at the same time and don’t do anything else but study. Mix things up between doing your course work and attending group lessons.
3. Set weekly and monthly goals for yourself
I like to sit down every Sunday night and look at everything I need to finish in the next week, and what I need to complete by the end of the month. This is something that you should do as well. Sit down once a week and decide where you want to be by next week.Do you want to finish a unit lesson?
Maybe by the end of the month, you want to be able to write about yourself at a higher level. Once you have set your weekly and monthly goals, do everything you can to try and reach them. Be sure to reward yourself as well!
4. Use all of EF English Live’s resources
Now you would not buy a brand new mobile phone and only use it to make a phone call – you’d use every single feature on it. It should be the same way with your English course: you pay to learn English so use all of the
resources available to you. Use the grammar lab, submit texts and attend as many group lessons as you can.
