So you have taken the first step. You have joined EF English Live to learn and practice another language.
You have maybe even sat in on some classes – but how do you make sure you achieve your aim and improve your language?
Take your time and get to know the EF English Live website well and all the information on it. It is there to help you. Learning a language involves a lot of skills: speaking, reading, writing and listening. EF English Live can help you with all these skills, so start with identifying what you want to know and get to know the support on offer to help you.
The more you do, the more you will learn, but even if you only have five minutes you can still learn something, so make the most of the time you have. You can always practice your vocabulary as you drive to work or sit on the train, and the more you use your new language the better you will get.
Learn good classroom protocol and use it to help you and the other students. A smoothly run group lesson gives everyone more speaking and learning time. The opening slide is a chance to show what you know and understand by the opening question, it is your first chance to join in so make the most of it. If you cannot hear your teacher or see the slides, let the teacher know as quickly as possible.
Turn your mic off when you have finished speaking, listen for your name and respond promptly, join in as much as you can, try not to cut over the other students, talk to your fellow students as much as you can and spend time at the end of the class going over the notes and slides.
Questions are welcome. We are here to help. Chat is useful here as you can use it to talk to the teacher and communicate with your fellow students. You can write privately to the teacher or more publicly.
And most of all, enjoy it. You can communicate in another language with people all over the world. How fantastic is that!
