An Italian in London: my top tips for a summer visit to London

Summer is when the sun comes out and we all run to the park to get catch some rays and feel some warmth. It’s when the days are longer and it stays light past 6.30 in the evening.

Summer is the perfect time of year to visit London. If you are planning a trip to the capital city, here is some advice on where to go – I want to share my favorite places in London with you.

To start a sunny day in London, you can’t miss breakfast. If you are around Notting Hill, pop in to Tom’s, a little café with the best breakfast ever. If you are in Central London, don’t miss the best coffee place: Flat White in Soho. It has delicious coffees and treats.

While the sun is out, don’t miss a visit to the parks. St James’s Park is the best place to spend a lazy sunny afternoon, as is the beautiful Regent’s Park with all its flowers. I discovered Battersea Park simply because I lived nearby, otherwise I would have absolutely ignored it. It’s worth a visit.

From there, you can see the famous Battersea Power Station, a decommissioned coal-fired power station, in all its 1930s Art Deco glory. It’s on the cover of the famous Pink Floyd album ‘Animals’.

For a spot of shopping, head to Portobello Road on a Friday (it’s too busy on a Saturday) which sells vintage items, photos and art. Spitalfields Market in the East is the best place to shop for all the vintage clothes you can buy, while around the corner the Columbia Flower Market is the most beautiful place you can visit in summer. It’s always full of colors, happy people and live music.

What about pubs? Pubs are an institution of British culture, and you have to have a pint wherever you are. You can find them everywhere, but some are special, you walk in and you feel the real “Englishness” like in The Freemasons Arms in Hampstead Heath for example. It’s in one of the best locations on a sunny day, right in the heart of Hampstead Heath where you have beautiful views of London below.

Because London in the sun is a totally different city, the people are different as well, all smiling, happy, and relaxed. London in the sun is the best place to live, and London in summer is a special place on earth that makes me happy.
