English In The Real World

Life in London – three expat blogs worth reading

Many of our students embark on learning English because they want to move to and work in an English-speaking country.

For those who make the jump abroad, it’s not just getting used to speaking English that can be tricky but also living in an unknown place full of cultural quirks and unknown traditions. Many expats turn to blogging to share their adventures.

If you’re thinking of moving abroad, they are a great resource of finding out more about life in your prospective new home, and if you’re thinking about heading to the British capital, here are three London expat blogs worth reading.

Little London Observationist – Originally from New York, Stephanie has been living in London since 2007. While she might not have any language issues, her witty insights into London, interviews with interesting Londoners and reviews of restaurants, shops and bars make for a great read and really show what a fascinating, diverse and inspiring city London can be. Vow. Move. Live –  imagine trading the pot-holed streets of Uganda’s capital city Kampala for a life in London. This is exactly what Kyomm has done when she followed her husband to the UK. Her blog offers some great insights into the challenges of moving abroad from house hunting in London to speaking English with an accent. ( http://vowmovelive.com/ )

All the continents in one lifetime – this Belgium globetrotter has made her home in London for the moment. Her blog followers her explorations around London from quirky East End to Richmond Park in the south, and offers some great insights into British culture and traditions.
